1986

In 1986, Cari-Med Limited opened its doors as a small pharmaceutical distribution company with just three employees. Founders Glen and Marva Christian were driven by a clear mission: to make quality medicines affordable for Jamaican consumers, backed by first-class customer service.

Through an early partnership with the Canadian company Apotex, Cari-Med brought high-quality generic drugs to the local market. That growing reputation for service soon drew the attention of leading international principals — among them GSK, Novartis, Merck Sharp & Dohme, AstraZeneca, Abbott and Bayer. What began as a modest venture proved to be the first step toward building a group of companies that would reshape Jamaica’s business landscape and change lives for the better.

In the decades since, the Cari-Med Group has expanded strategically into fast-moving consumer goods, diversifying across multiple categories. Today we represent trusted international brands including Lysol, Harpic, Duracell, Wrigley, Scotch-Brite, Ensure and Purina.

Forty years on, that team of three has grown to more than 800 employees and over 200 contractors, and Cari-Med now stands as a major force in Jamaica’s pharmaceutical and consumer goods sectors — a proud home to some of the world’s most respected brands.

From a modest beginning to a milestone four decades in the making, our commitment remains exactly what it was in 1986: quality, affordability and service that puts Jamaicans first.
